Clacton on Sea Golf Club Newspaper Report – Thursday 30th April 2026

On a very windy Tuesday some of the ladies played for the Grandmothers Trophy with the rest of the field playing a singles stableford The Rest. Sandy Cocker won the Grandmothers Trophy with 35 points beating Jeanette Shea with 33 points and Emma Murphy  who was third with 31 points. Hoon Locke won The Rest with 38 points. Anna Cowen was a close second with 37 points and Liz Strutt was third with 33 points.

On a warm and sunny Saturday the ladies played the second match in the Bronze Shield League at The Warren. A very challenging course with a lot of undulations and although the team fought well they unfortunately lost 4-1 to last years winners.
The following day the ladies played their first match in the Academia Matchplay knockout against The Essex. The team players were Jackie Hart, Coco Locke, Jeanette Shea, Denise Pink & Tania Fuller. They were assisted by their caddies Maxine Trill, Lady Captain Emma Cole, Jackie Bright, Team Captain Sonja Strutt & Derek Fuller. The home team proved to be the stronger side with the Clacton ladies securing a 4-1 win. They are now through to the second round of this national competition.

Also on Sunday two pairs of ladies played a match in the Essex Hi/Low Foursomes. The draw in this county competition had meant the two pairs were to play against one another at home. It was a very close match, the pairings were evenly matched, however Anna Cowen & Cheryl Cowdery were the winners and are now through to the next round beating Hoon Locke & Simone Maxwell 3 & 2.

The Juniors played their April Medal on Saturday  with Max Heffer winning with a score of 91-19=72. Charlie Heffer was second 88-14=74 & Jonnie Down third 95-20=75.
The Captain’s Putter Greensomes competition was also played on Saturday and there were some terrific scores. The winning pair  Jamie Twigg & Kyle Doherty won on countback with 46 points, just beating Nigel Brumpton & Raymond Justice. In third place with 44 points was Ryder & Darcy Eden.

The men played the Pisa Cup on Sunday led by Club Captain Gary Dymond. The strong side had a fantastic win in the first leg of this annual match against Maldon with a final result of 7 ½ - ½.

On Monday the Seniors played for the 19th Catering Anniversary Cup. The winner was Albert Brown with 41 points. In second place was Greg Wright with 39 points & Thomas Cornwall was third with 37 points.
